| 06/22/2008 | Open • Accessible • Leadership | Representative Larry Haler used a new form of communication this week to speak with citizens, a telephone town hall meeting. Questions from the public were alternated with poll questions. Over 700 citizens in the district participated and Larry appreciated their interest and input. During the hour-long dialogue, Larry announced his initiative for the next legislative session - a Nuclear Energy Day. Working with the local chapter of the American Nuclear Society and local companies, Representative Haler will sponsor a "Nuclear Energy Day" in Olympia during the next session to promote clean, nuclear power. "I have been talking up nuclear energy in the legislature the last four years. People are beginning to listen. It is time to increase our educational efforts and reach and teach elected officials and government workers in Olympia about the value of nuclear energy. A Nuclear Energy Day is one way to bring the nuclear power discussion to the forefront and begin to change perceptions in Washington State," Haler said.
Also this week, ARC of the Tri-Cities honored Representative Haler with its 2007-2008 Distinguishd Community Service Award. In his acceptance speech, Representative Haler said that when he hears the acronym often used for the developmently disabled, DD, he thinks of Determination and Dignity. Judy Westik, the Executive Director of ARC, presented the award (pictured above.)
