| 05/12/2008 | Off and Running! | Today Larry Haler announced his campaign for reelection to the State House of Representatives for the 8th District. He will be seeking his third term.
“I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in Olympia. Together, we’ve had great success in bringing projects to the 8th District that have strengthened our quality of life through economic development and new employment opportunities,” said Haler. “But much more needs to be accomplished to ensure that the mid- Columbia region continues to attract more businesses that will employ our highly skilled Hanford work force as clean up eventually comes to an end.”
Haler cited his work to bring a 4-year WSU campus to the Tri- Cities, his support for systemic improvements to Early Childhood Learning programs, his work to create cost effective and efficient forms of testing students, and his introduction of the first pro-nuclear legislation to pass the House of Representatives in 20 years as reasons to be returned to Olympia.
“If reelected, I will continue to be a strong advocate for all these causes and for the 8th District and the Mid-Columbia region,” said Haler.
In his first two terms, Haler also championed open and accessible government. He established the first state legislative office to be actually located within the borders of the 8th district and held 32 public meetings throughout the district. “In my next term, I will continue my efforts to bring government closer to the people it serves,” said Haler.
Even before announcing, Haler begins the race with endorsements by the Tri-City Realtors, the Richland Fire Department and the Benton County Republican party, and is supported by the House Republican Caucus in Olympia.
“Larry Haler has been a valued member of the Republican Caucus and has fought hard to bring common sense to Olympia” said House Minority Leader Richard DeBolt. “He has been a strong advocate for the citizens of the 8th district and we will fully support his reelection campaign.” |
