| 10/03/2008 | Rep. Larry Haler Featured Speaker | A ribbon cutting ceremony was held this week to open the Port of Benton's Intermodal Transload Facility in Richland. Representative Haler was the featured speaker at the event. Taking advantage of the Horn Rapids Rail Spur, built while Representative Haler was Mayor of the City of Richland, the transload facility will expand use of the rail spur and provide a much needed service to growers in the region. Both Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Class I railroads can be accessed from the new transload facility and rail spur.
The 7,200 square foot intermodal transload facility, operated by Henningsen Cold Storage, will serve a variety of purposes. Small shippers will be able to assemble and combine custom quantities of their products and ship to customers located throughout the United States.
Developing the transload facility was a joint project between the City of Richland, the State Rail program, and the State of Washington to promote Washington State agriculture and economic development in the Mid-Columbia region. Representative Larry Haler is proud to have been a part of promoting this diversification effort, first at the local and now at the state level. |
